The «best architects 20 award» has been decided. Once again, the high number of submissions presented an extraordinary density of architectural projects of the highest quality. For the jury it was therefore extremely challenging to filter out the very best of the entries.


»It was impressive to see the high quality of projects in all areas, regardless of the size or the prestige of the relevant assignment. Attention to detail, a consistent implementation of the architectural concept and a sensitive approach to the surroundings are the hallmarks of many of these works. The number of «low cost» projects that managed to achieve extraordinary things with a minimal budget was also striking.» (Tobias Schwarzer, organiser of the best architects award)


With ever new impulses, the architectural industry is constantly evolving and has this year once more demonstrated that the commitment of individual architects can produce surprising, innovative projects. These outstanding achievements have been honoured with this year’s «best architects 20 award».

The jury, comprising Titus Bernhard (Augsburg), Ünal Karamuk (Zurich) and Anna Popelka (Vienna) bestowed the best architects 20 Award on 70 projects. Another eleven were distinguished for particularly outstanding quality with the label best architects 20 in gold

»In the end, many hours of intense and extremely stimulating discussion about architecture at the «best architects» in Düsseldorf, led to a selection of outstanding projects that primarily stand out from the masses for their clear and independent approach. They go beyond the mere competence required to fulfil their brief. They have not chosen the path of least resistance. They declare themselves without requiring lengthy explanations.
