Set around a historic mansion in its own park in the town of Saarlouis, the Lamaison Hotel was developed with a close connection to the town in mind. Old and new form a contrast in their architectural language while they are connected through the reduced harmonised material palette. The existing structures are now in warm white colours, plain tiles in ochre and travertine while all the new buildings are wrapped with a skin of aluminium elements in bronze. All architectural elements in the landscape come in weathered steel. This material palette resembles the colours of the bark of the plane trees that were planted when the town was founded by Louis XIV, thus linking the hotel in an abstract manner with the Francophile history. At the same time, it echoes the industrial tradition of the region. Lamaison is a hotel with 50 rooms and suites, conference areas, a restaurant and a guesthouse. Located in the park, the guesthouse links architecture and nature through its façade of natural rough sawn silver fir and oversized windows that create a smooth transition between the interior and the world outside. With wood panelling and oak floors, the rooms in the guesthouse create a warm atmosphere, augmented by the use of natural materials and a natural colour palette. The rooms have contemporary furnishings, while modern interpreted quotes of past eras such as rattan, ornamental glazing, marble washbasins and Art Nouveau-inspired tiles refer to the property as it was at the beginning of the 20th century.
