Description

The trapezoidal property in the Lake Lucerne valley is bordered to the south by a stream with tall trees and to the north by a road. The base of the building is thus designed to provide flood protection on the stream side while also following the ground line of the plot. It forms in combination with the house above with its pitched roof and the garage an intriguing volume. The floor plan is divided into two self-contained rooms through which a »spatial flow« is created. At the centre of the house, an area that extends over two storeys forms its focal point. On the upper floor, the spaciousness of the rooms is carried through in the vertical direction by the high pitched roof. The façades are distinguished by a varied arrangement of openings on each side. The vertical structure of the plasterwork lends them a vitality that contrasts with the rigorous geometry of the building’s form. The pitched roof features extensive plantings. On the interior, exposed concrete walls and ceilings and polished screed floors sport a warm brown tone.
