Description

The result of a public competition for two new school buildings and a public square located at the centre of a new residential neighbourhood in Bolzano, the project is the first of the two schools to be completed. Taking its cue from the regulating master plan, the two-storey building bends and sways to accommodate the three programmatic functions into one structure, opening up on the inside to reveal three inner courtyards of varying sizes. These bamboo-lined courtyards make for a transparent, light-filled interior, while at the same time providing a common buffer space between the constituent programmes, each with their own distinct areas. The synergy of these three structures is stimulated by a transparency across the courtyards and terraces to create a lively community dedicated to small children and their families.
