Description

In the course of the renovation and expansion of the Küttigen Retirement Community, an existing nursing home was extensively refurbished and a care centre as well as two detached apartment buildings with flats suitable for seniors were added. The extension of the existing building offered the possibility of correcting the proportions of the stolid-looking structure, giving it a more elegant overall form. The sophisticated shape of the new annex  

simultaneously closes off the third side of the suggested courtyard and creates a new entrance situation. With their modest height and polygonal form, the two-storey detached residential buildings containing separate apartments for seniors blend harmoniously into the village framework. The layout of the barrier-free two- and three-room apartments ensures that the bedrooms and living rooms alike give onto a spacious roofed balcony, which extends the living space outdoors and offers beautiful views of the surrounding orchards and the nearby Jura mountain range.
