The 89 winning projects

of the annual architecture award

In this edition, the book's title has been moved from the actual book to the slipcase. This allowed the book itself to be covered with a geometric pattern on all sides. An optical irritation is generated that challenges our perception of forms in space, relating directly to spatial issues in architecture. Each project is presented on two double-page spreads featuring photos, plans and a description. The result is a stunning overview of the best works on the architecture scene in Europe.

»A meticulously crafted publication as a fitting tribute to the often difficult work of architects.« Prof. Pia Durisch / Jury 2016

10 years
of the best architects award

It is fascinating to observe how architecture has developed over the last 10 years – especially how architects have responded to changing social, cultural and economic parameters with a steady supply of new solutions of the highest standard. But high-calibre architecture is of course by no means limited only to the German-speaking countries. Throughout Europe, a dynamic and vibrant architectural scene has sprung up, which is unfortunately rarely known or publicised beyond the respective national borders.

By opening up the competition for submissions from all over Europe, the best architects Award has taken on a whole new dimension. Appraising the diverse entries, we can see how differently architects work in the various cultural contexts, coming up with some very original solutions.

Christian Waldner (AllesWirdGut Architektur, Wien) Jury member of the Award explains: »Regardless of the large number of fascinating façades, beautiful details and deftly deployed materials, it was important to me that projects should be recognised that have a particular relevance to our times, as their architects have managed to achieve special and surprising results through the use of intelligent solutions with low material consumption.«
