Description
The imposing volumes of the school opposite the site dominate the surrounding area. But through a uniform design and fencing made of painted wooden slats, the new building is able to stand its ground in this setting. The main volume divides the enclosed outdoor space into a sheltered paved entrance courtyard and a green playground. Three atriums structure the interiors. These areas offer all-day sunshine and create a diverse set of spaces. The placement of interior openings affords unexpected sight lines through the building. The upper floor accommodates three day-care rooms, while the kindergarten children have their classrooms and dining areas on the ground floor. Various access points to the rooms allow for multiple uses and thus a high degree of flexibility.
