Description
Four courtyard houses occupy the slightly inclined property located at the upper edge of municipality of Zumikon. The form selected for their construction made it possible to create an ensemble of four houses that generates a high level quality of living combined with privacy. The four houses are modular and identical in their basic concept, but each has mirror symmetry around their common centre and reacts differently to the topographical context. The rigorous floor plan concept is reflected in the façades as well as in the clearly structured roof landscape. Each room has a trapezoidal roof with a skylight at its apex. The roof topography responds to the requirement for angled roofs while also giving the complex its visual identity. The exposed concrete exterior walls and trapezoidal roofs are also the main support structures. Manual finishing of the concrete surfaces serves to harmoniously articulate the volumes.
