Description
Just as the varied wines produced in the Wachau reflect the region’s many facets, so does the architecture of the winery find its anchor in this distinctive location. The new building is set in a landscape shaped by steep terraces of dressed stones set upright and close together. Used for both wine production and tasting, the building reinforces the impact of its setting while completing the courtyard to allow the ensemble to unfold its full potential. It stands alongside the existing buildings, shielding the courtyard from the road and creating a pleasant space for lingering. The production hall extends along the road, while the tasting room faces onto the forecourt. When seen from afar, the new building seems to fit into the established cultural landscape of the Wachau. Only on second glance does it become clear that this is a modern sculptural volume that relates in abstract form to the high art of winemaking.
