Baufeld 10
Description
The special challenge of this project on Site 10 (Baufeld 10) of Hamburg’s new HafenCity neighbourhood was that it was developed as a collective building venture. The building thus had to accommodate a wide variety of apartment typologies and every conceivable furnishing standard, with all flats in addition exhibiting divergent layouts – from one-storey units to maisonettes extending across four storeys. From the outside, the apartment house is a gleaming white volume with slightly bevelled corners and generously dimensioned, likewise bevelled window openings. The configuration of the windows reveals the layout of the apartment behind them. Each of the apartments has a balcony and/or bay window which protrude far out of the building to afford maximum views of the harbour within the rigid building block. Individualisation was the highest priority for the project. Each of the 28 clients can now enjoy his own personal lifestyle within his home.
