Description

The site is situated on the outskirts of Mayrhofen and is defined by a natural hillside at a height of 3.5 meters ranging from the car park below to the higher grassland. The superior platform of the site accommodates the station building. Like the terrain, the design with a wideprojecting station level and an equally wide-projecting lower concrete construction also allows the building to stand out from the hillside. The way from the car park to the platforms is parallel respectively slightly off the longitudinal axis of the ropeway and leads over inclined planes that form a generous access ramp without steps. Beyond the ramp is a shopping arcade with skylights and a strong concrete structure protruding from the ground level building in the hillside with shops, cash desks and ancillary rooms. > top station > The cover of both stations where passengers board and disembark is of the same structure, but the accessibility and location of the top station in the terrain is basically different. Due to the position of the building just above the broken-down rocks, the access platform is a direct extension of the ropeway axis into the high plateau of the Ahorn ski area. Clearly separated from the station building stands a small tower for personnel and organizational tasks, a structural outpost in the terrain and a new landmark to be seen from a distance. > summary > The materials used – dark grey concrete and black plates – help to integrate the buildings into the natural surroundings of the high plateau of grey-brown to dark and olive green colours. The architecture of the buildings does not expose the technical contents using superficial technical attributes like complicated details; it internalizes, hides and then presents the finesse of ropeway engineering just before departure.
