Description
Shimmering like a
crystal, the clear, precise form of this structure already catches the eye from
afar. The chapel appears to grow from the ground harmoniously and dynamically,
stretching towards the sky and entering into a dialogue with its surroundings.
Its numinous exterior has a sculpted appearance, piques the interest of the
viewer, catches the eye and reflects is surroundings in multifaceted ways. A concrete bench element
stretches along the spiral-like path into the innermost part of the chapel and
invites visitors to linger inside. The bench’s seating height is aligned with
the level of the grass and metaphorically conveys the sense of sitting directly
within the surrounding lawn. The forecourt provides a space for human
interaction in the fresh air. The chapel, chapel walls
and bench provide an acoustically and spatially delimited backdrop for open-air
events. In addition to the 28 or so seats in the outdoor area and approximately 20 seats inside the chapel, folding chairs and tables
can be added as needed. The room, which is
tangibly and palpably a religious space, is defined by clarity. The materials
are subtle in their appearance. The light-coloured laminated wood draws the
soft rays of light inwards. This imbues the room with calm, dignity and
presence. In the evening, a
dimmable light-frame causes white light to strafe the varnished walls. Colour,
material, rhythm and light all combine to create tension and harmony, as well
as a space for silence and interaction – internally as well as externally.
