Description
The new community centre for the Evangelical Reformed Church in Würenlos blends in harmoniously with the cemetery compound that forms its setting. Whilst the contours and colour scheme of the new building allude to those of the existing church, its structure and materials assert an independent character without disrupting the tranquil atmosphere of the cemetery. The frame is made of prefabricated timber elements made to measure at the factory. The naturally ageing materials of wood and copper are used on the façade, which will cause its appearance to change over time. The interiors are laid out to fit the various functions of a community centre. The ground floor houses all the rooms for daily use – the parish office, a conference room, the social services centre and the secretary’s office. On the upper storey are two communal rooms of different sizes that provide adequate space for events.
