Description
The new multifunctional sports hall at Hermann Neuberger Sports Academy extends the capacities of the LSVS for school, club and top-level competitive sports. The new competition-grade hall, partitionable into three zones and featuring stands seating 1,200, a side wing and classrooms, was made possible by funding from the second economic stimulus package. The urban setting with its topography, together with the aim of optimising training and competition conditions as well as the spectator experience resulted in a compact structure at the western end of the complex. The framed entrance façade welcomes visitors, while the homogeneous building envelope conveys an impression of introversion, promoting concentration on the pursuit of sport. The transparency of the public areas establishes a connection to the building’s surroundings. The roof is topped by an encircling clerestory whose translucent shell provides glare-free illumination for the hall below. A reduction to the essentials – space and light for sports.
