Description
“The typology of the triple-function gymnasium is remarkable and (in Switzerland) hitherto unusual… […] The architectural composition of the type demonstrates its characteristics and possibilities... […]. The building appears calm, elegant and almost noble. Even by Swiss standards, this hall demonstrates exceptionally careful detailing.” (werk, bauen + wohnen 3/2007). By installing the cloakroom entrances on the outside – three glazed-roof cubes – the two functionally different floors can be accessed separately. Athletes and spectators are led into the building via separate entrances. The guiding principle was to create a horizontally layered entity out of the different functional sections. The result is a solitary structure flooded with light.
