Description
Located
in Brittany, near the centre of Lorient, the project is being developed on the
site of the city’s former hospital. The project implements several systems to
address both adaptability of housing and quality of use. A subtle volumetric
approach makes it possible to deliver between 33 and 41 apartments, offering a
wide typological range from studios to four-bedroom duplexes. The apartments
are heterogeneous, diversified and either dual-aspect or triple-oriented.
Several typologies are divisible (with studios that can become independent from
the main apartment). Duplex units feature double-height spaces, allowing the
creation of an additional mezzanine room or an extra bedroom. The transition
from public to private space is achieved through shared external walkways, with
front yards as private outdoor spaces providing access to each apartment. A
multiplicity of outdoor spaces, with varied orientations, allows for different
simultaneous uses. Private floor areas per apartment are increased by 30 per
cent compared to the net internal floor area thanks to the generosity of the
outdoor spaces. The project proposes the establishment of a new housing
typology, midway between individual housing, intermediate housing and
collective housing.
