Description
The
new sports hall plays a central role as an urban hinge on the heterogeneous
campus between the vocational school centre, the old town hall, the high school
and the fairground. The positioning of the hall creates flowing open spaces of
varying qualities. To the west, it integrates the existing Platanenhalle with
its remarkable old tree population, and to the east it connects to the
fairground, relating directly to the outdoor space thanks to generous glazing
and large gates. The hall accommodating three different courts is therefore used
not only as a sports facility but also as a multifunctional meeting place for
the schools and clubs on the campus. The two-storey compact volume is based on
the rational aesthetics of the neighbouring buildings in terms of form,
materiality and simplicity. The foyer, accessible at ground level, functions as
a bright, multifunctional zone with an integrated cafeteria, thus becoming the
central hub for students, teachers and guests. While the gymnastics rooms are
located above the foyer, the ancillary rooms with kitchen, equipment rooms,
changing rooms, sanitary facilities and access areas extend between the foyer
and the sports hall. This means that all functional areas are efficiently
connected to each other. The planning and construction of the building were
supervised and certified in accordance with the Sustainable Building Guidelines
(LNB) of the Ravensburg district authority.
