Description
Casele
– Cucina e Bar del Sud embeds Neapolitan energy into the existing fabric of a
former Munich butcher’s shop (Schlagbauer). The butcher-shop backbone remains
visible, not overwritten but embraced and extended – as if the place had always
been this way. Warm glazed tiles meet a coffered timber ceiling; existing
stainless-steel and copper elements are retained and carried forward as a
matter-of-fact material trace. The former butcher’s counter becomes the base of
the wine bar; late at night, the very same spot turns into a DJ booth – dimmed
light, visible speakers and vintage pieces lending the room an Italo-disco
mood. At the core of the fit-out is the precise reassignment of functions: the
former meat refrigerator becomes a wine cabinet, the old cold room turns into
open wine storage. The former meat cold-storage area is transformed into a
private room clad in dark mahogany – one that deliberately shuts out the day.
Private dining rooms display sharp contrasts: a 1970s boardroom with ClassiCon
furniture by Konstantin Grcic versus a pale-wood-panelled alpine Stube that leans unapologetically into cosiness. Art is not treated as decoration but
as an active layer that keeps the space in motion: mirror works by Alexander
Deubl, mixed-media pieces by Stefanie Seethaler, flash photographs by Dylan
Don, and original old oil paintings from a turn-of-the-century Florentine villa.
What defines the project is the friction – city versus south – carried by the
existing structure.
