Description
At the «Auf AEG» site in
the west of Nuremberg, an innovative technology campus is gradually taking
shape and has been evolving since 2007 into a vibrant urban neighbourhood with
a new identity. The future-ready research centre – the first of its kind for an
institute of technology – brings together a wide variety of scientific
disciplines under one roof as a genuine «all-in-one» innovation network. Thanks
to its central location, the university building plays a crucial mediating role
in urban development. The architectural concept specifically strengthens
interdisciplinary exchange, harnesses synergies and promotes open communication.
The three to five above-ground storeys house specialised laboratories and
workshops, a cafeteria, a two-storey event hall, as well as office space and
university administrative facilities. The theme of substantial shared diversity
concentrated within a single building is expressed through the continuous
building envelope. The homogeneous metal façade with its distinctive green-blue
hue gives the new building its unmistakable character. The design sees itself
as a connecting link: it takes up the site’s industrial heritage and transforms
it into architecture that responds to the questions of tomorrow. By
interweaving historical heritage with a modern design language, the new
building becomes a symbol of a forward-looking research culture that is aware of
its roots and clearly looks to the future.
