Description

The Candle Pavilion responds sensitively to the historical context of the parish and the proximity of the Montban Chapel. Conceived as a restrained intervention, it seeks to preserve and reveal the site’s existing qualities rather than impose a new object. Through its materiality and measured form, the pavilion establishes a dialogue between old and new, architecture and landscape. The project is based on an economy of means: a limited number of essential elements, each designed with precision. The composition is structured around a wall, a bench, a display case and a roof, arranged as a landscape intervention emerging from the ground. A concrete slab defines the perimeter and organises the ensemble, while the wall mentioned above, likewise made of concrete, accommodates the ex-votos, creating both a protective backdrop and a surface that captures light and shadow. Inserted within this mineral composition, the delicate display case introduces a contrast between transparency and mass, metal and stone. The monolithic bench completes the pavilion, inviting pause and contemplation. The thin steel roof partially covers and unifies the composition. Supported by slender columns, it rests lightly on the mineral elements, emphasising their permanence and weight. Over time, patina, traces of use and seasonal changes will progressively anchor the pavilion within its environment.
