Description
The property at Sperrstrasse 91 in Basel is part of a
perimeter block and consists of a front and a rear building. The rear building
is accessed via an open passageway in the front building, which dates back to
1956. There are 12 renovated apartments in the front building, which have new
kitchens and bathrooms. The roof was renovated to make it more energy-efficient
and fitted with a PV system, and the attic was converted into living space. The
existing balconies on the courtyard side were enlarged. The rear building was
previously used for a small commercial workshop and has now been subdivided
into tiny houses, taking the narrow courtyard situation into account. The four
identical units each extend over two floors. The project reuse materials from other properties, for example kitchen units from former school kitchens and trapezoidal sheeting as new cladding for the rear building.
