Description
The
existing school was characterised by a composition of building volumes framing outdoor
spaces. Our new building fits into this framework and completes it to form a
new whole. The versatile floor plan offers conditions conducive to modern
educational concepts. On the ground floor, the day structures and library are
open to neighbourhood residents. The classrooms on the upper floor are arranged
under the striking roofscape. Four classrooms form a cluster that is used as a
learning landscape whose atmosphere is defined by the skylight. The double
staircase in the centre of the building creates a spatially striking
connection. Internal glazing allows further views and extends the spaces. The
building envelope is based on the proportions of the existing pavilion
buildings. The tectonics are structured from a mixture of prefabricated and cast-in-place
elements. The escape balconies stagger the façades and lend them a varied play
of shadows.
