Description
The
challenge of this plot is to create urban continuity at a crossroads. The
street façade we developed seamlessly extends the adjacent Haussmann building at
the corner and takes up the rhythms of both Boulevard Bolivar and Rue Pradier.
When seen from Buttes-Chaumont Park, the building asserts its presence in the
urban landscape. Material choices follow a contextual approach. Noyant
limestone connects with the existing built fabric, utilising a local supply
chain with a low carbon footprint. In the courtyard, timber frames and hemp
concrete reinterpret traditional techniques, combining durability, coherence
and resource efficiency. The façade blends solid stone on the street side and
lime plaster on the garden side, with hemp concrete insulation forming a
breathable envelope that enhances thermal comfort. The volumetric design
preserves courtyard proportions and maximises light intake. Compact yet
ergonomic apartments are served by shared landings, each giving access to two
dwellings. Common areas on the ground floor open onto the garden, while a
lightweight timber roof, embedded in limestone walls, shelters a parking area
for soft mobility. The hybrid structure of stone, wood and hemp concrete minimises
non-bio-sourced materials, with prefabrication ensuring a low-impact, neighbour-friendly
site.
