Description
The Zimmerhof was built in 1927 as a cooperative
settlement with 36 apartments. Over time, uncoordinated renovation measures
were carried out, which severely affected the identity of the settlement. The
task of a comprehensive renovation – which was carried out in
close coordination with the monument preservation department – placed the focus on the maximum preservation of the original parts. One
challenge was insulating the façade with an insulating plaster and the
associated reprofiling of the window frames. The outdoor spaces, especially the
courtyard, were also comprehensively upgraded using precise measures. The
chosen strategy of camouflaging the interventions consolidated the typical
image of a simple, homogeneous settlement from the interwar period. The
interior interventions dealt with the renovation and renewal of bathrooms and
kitchens. Surfaces such as the original pitch pine floors were left in place
and refreshed. The biggest intervention was converting the attics into living
space, with the uppermost apartments designed as maisonettes.
