Description
Four developers with different needs joined forces to develop two residential buildings on neighbouring plots. Two independent but structurally related buildings were designed – on the scale of the neighbourhood, with a variety of views and vistas as well as a shared outdoor space. Slender ceilings, beams and columns made of reinforced concrete, minimised to what is structurally necessary, form a three-dimensional spatial grid. Different floor plan layouts are woven into this structure, creating a wide variety of flats with different numbers of rooms and changing orientations. As all the interior walls are of lightweight construction, the flats can be easily adapted to new requirements: A new wall can be quickly installed and an additional room created for a child or home office. The structure can be experienced spatially on the inside, as columns and beams are exposed. The curtain wall façade in timber construction envelops the spatial grid like a skin and the windows form deep mouldings on the inside that can be used like pieces of furniture. Couples, pensioners, flat-sharing communities and small to medium-sized families live close together yet embedded in a green environment. Low retaining walls enclose the lush perennial garden, which constantly changes with the seasons, and a communal seating area encourages socialising and contact and invites you to enjoy a spontaneous after-work evening beer.
