Description
The existing building for the two kindergartens and
four groups of the Kloten crèche had become too small and no longer met today’s
requirements and thus needed to be replaced. The almost triangular plot is located
in the second row within a residential area and borders a small wooded area to
the south. Thanks to its polygonal shape, the new three-storey building fits
precisely into the plot and makes efficient use of the buildable area. Its
architectural formulation and strong colour scheme give it an independent
character and clearly distinguish it from its surroundings. The floor plan is
divided into four polygons, grouped around a shared entrance and access area.
The kindergarten and crèche groups are housed in two of the volumes, while the
office/staff areas and dining rooms are located in the other two. The main
rooms in each group face south and west. The generous window openings create a
variety of views into the building and onto the natural surroundings. In
contrast to the dark aubergine-coloured wooden façade, the interior surfaces of
the hybrid building are basically light and neutral. However, in the entrance
areas of each group, intense colours were used for identification and
orientation.
