Description
The «Zur Eych» house, first mentioned in 1350, is a
living testimony to centuries of architectural history with its late medieval
façade and striking twin and triplet windows. The remodelling was carried out
in close cooperation with the heritage conservation authorities and was
dedicated to the complex structure of the building. The aim was to preserve and
rediscover historical qualities: later remodelling, such as the fireplace from
1945, was removed to reveal the original spatial relationships and enable
flexible uses. Particular attention was paid to the interior design: the Baroque
painted beamed ceiling was skilfully restored. New interventions – such as a
modern interpretation of a tiled stove – are based on the historical building
fabric in terms of their proportions, materials and design, and set
contemporary accents. The building has also been technically modernised: the
switch to district heating and the use of modern vacuum glazing improve energy
efficiency without detracting from the building’s appearance. The result is a
place that both preserves and retells history – a monument that connects the
past, present and future.
