Description
Surrounded by forested slopes and the mountain peaks
of the South Tyrolean Ahrntal, the «Eggemair» farm is located in Mühlwald. On
the original site of an old mill, the «Haus Eggemoa» was created as a new home
for the mountain farming family, inspired by the simple agricultural building
typology of the valley. The solid timber structure, built from massive wooden
walls without any insulation or foils, rests on a base of sandblasted concrete,
blending harmoniously into the landscape while serving as a contemporary
interpretation of the surrounding architectural context. Vertical and
horizontal wooden elements made of untreated larch structure the façade, with a
southern balcony bay as a striking feature. The house is characterised by
sustainability and the use of local materials: the exposed concrete base
incorporates local aggregates, while the wood comes from the farm’s own forest.
Access is provided via a footbridge from the north side, and an open staircase
connects all levels inside. The living area opens up to the roof, offering
expansive views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The lower floor houses
three bedrooms with direct access to the green space. A farm workshop and storage
rooms complement the available space. The interior materials – solid larch wood and exposed concrete – create
a cohesive and harmonious atmosphere throughout the house.
