Description
The residential building is perched high up on the Hiltiberg above the former farming village of Fislisbach. Constructed entirely of timber, the building is staggered in height and orientation up the slope and offers varied residential units affording a quiet life in the midst of nature. The terraced volume with its wooden shell blends harmoniously into its surroundings thanks to its horizontal and vertical staggering and continues the granularity of the neighbourhood. Through private and communal indoor and outdoor spaces, the new replacement building offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The external staircase provides access to the ground-floor apartments and establishes a communal living culture. It was therefore possible to dispense with an internal staircase core. The apartment building was constructed using high-quality Swiss timber from a nearby forest. This makes the new structure ecologically sustainable and establishes a connection to regional nature. With the exception of the garage and basement, the structure consists of prefabricated timber elements. The building envelope is designed as an insulated timber construction, with an outer visible skin of colour-glazed silver fir cladding. Due to the hillside site, it was possible to dispense with structural bracing in the transverse direction, with only three static supports ensuring spatial flexibility and a homely quality within the residential units.
