Description

The Furggaleidis house is located in Buchen, a small village in the Swiss canton of Grisons. Set amid beautiful natural surroundings and unobstructed agricultural fields, the long and calm volume has its roots in the regional stables that have shaped the landscape for decades. The house thus takes up various themes and structures without ignoring the actual purpose of a contemporary residence. A strong connection to the environment and sensitive integration into the terrain ensures that all rooms are adapted to their use and optimally arranged. The open, light-filled attic contains the main living spaces and optimally brings the wonderful outside world indoors. A large covered outdoor area is also integrated into the tectonic grid of the house and allows direct access to the garden. In contrast, the ground floor with its private rooms forms a safe retreat, sheltered by prominent filters integrated into the façade. The space between these filters and the floor-to-ceiling glazing gives the rooms extra depth while serving as natural sun protection. Massive, raw, pre-greyed wooden formwork envelops the entire building, lending it a calm, minimalist and clean-lined outward appearance.
