Description

The Stoffel textile factory towers high above Mels. It was powered by the Seez River and was a mainstay of the textile industry in the small town for a hundred years. Based on a winning competition entry in 2013, the factory buildings were gradually renovated and supplemented with new buildings between 2016 and 2023. An inclined elevator leads from the Rhine Valley up to the former factory. Thanks to precise interventions, the characteristic steel supports in the spinning and weaving mill have been preserved. The industrial atmosphere of the factory halls was transferred to the new living spaces by means of deep floor plans, high ceilings and large windows.
