Description

The Schorenmatte Sports Centre is located on the edge of the Lange Erlen recreational area, in a groundwater protection and green zone. The special terrain here includes a curving former railroad embankment and an adjoining forest. The previous changing rooms and sports facilities no longer met current requirements and were to be replaced by a sensitive new building to create a new social gathering place in the neighbourhood. The parallel use of the building, both privately for athletes and publicly for visitors, was a precondition for this. The single-storey timber structure, which inconspicuously inserts itself into the landscape, is divided into two zones arranged one behind the other in the depth of the building. A 40-metre-long and three-metre-deep terrace opens onto the playing field and is protected from direct sunlight and rain by a prominent angled roof to serve as a meeting zone. The roof is completely covered with photovoltaic panels that can fill a large part of the building’s electricity requirements. Behind it, the stepped floor plan is staggered into the terrain and adjoins the railroad embankment at the rear. All the changing rooms, shower rooms and material storage areas are located here as separate compartments. The 70-square-metre club room inside is separated from the spectator terrace by a full-height glass door front.
