Description

In order to ensure modern clinic operations, the campus of the Baselland Psychiatric Clinic will be expanded in the coming years in accordance with a master plan. The Baden-based architectural firm Burkard Meyer has expanded the campus with the two new buildings «Haus Galms» and «Haus Frenke», which will house the centres for geriatric psychiatry and crisis intervention. The design evolves from the topography and landscape surrounding the clinic’s striking buildings and adds two similar yet independent figures in the south-west area of the campus. The wide meadows around the new buildings are interspersed with trees, creating a flowing transition from the surrounding forest to a park-like setting with ideal retreats for patients. The architectural design creates a human environment and provides a suitable spatial and atmospheric framework for the needs of residents and staff. The interior spaces correspond with each other in such a way that they allow a variety of combinations as manageable units. Wards, ward offices, access and infrastructure are arranged to create various forms of openness within a closed system. New findings in psychiatry and psychotherapy can thus be implemented at any time within the structural framework.
