Description

The Falginjoch cable car at the far end of the Kaunertal valley replaces two existing tow lifts and climbs to the highest point in the ski area at an elevation of 3,113 metres. The exposed location and a construction period which had to be shortened to six months called for a high level of prefabrication. This also helped to minimise on-site construction and keep it within ecologically acceptable limits. The required visible technical installations belonging to the ropeway system, such as drives, ropeway towers and rope anchoring, formed the basis for all design considerations. These visually defining elements motivated a reduction to the materials of concrete, steel and glass and are reflected in the technology-inspired infrastructure buildings.
