Description

A new urban ensemble consisting of a high-rise hotel building, a public parking garage with service areas and a bus terminal has been created in the Bahnhofsvorstadt district on the former Fruchthof, a derelict site on the visual axis from the central station square in Bremen. In terms of urban planning, the bus terminal is located between the buildings of the Überseemuseum and the cinema, which shape the urban space in this district, as an extension of the track axis. All parts of the building enter into a close urban and architectural dialogue and complement each other functionally. The prefabricated elements of the concrete façade contrast with the lightweight membrane construction of the bus terminal. The curved shapes bring all the components together thematically and make reference to the surrounding listed buildings. The concept pursues the idea of an open and bright urban square, which is realised through a modular, parasol-like and translucent membrane construction. The public functions on the ground floor of the arcade complement the inner-city bus station functionally and enliven the atmosphere. Thanks to the modular design of the station roof, each canopy top can be removed individually and covered with a new membrane, ensuring a high degree of revisability. The entire steel structure is galvanised and also painted, which ensures a long service life that will stand the test of time.
