Description
The new kindergarten and gymnasium building is
situated in the extension of the existing school on the upper, north-eastern
edge of the school grounds. The elongated new building is inserted into the setting
in such a way that a new generous outdoor space with a central school square is
created between the existing school, the new building and the Rössle cultural
centre. The entrance to the gymnasium and the passage to Kaplaneigasse are
located on the new square. The kindergarten above connects to the top floor of
the primary school; in the basement, the cloakrooms of the new gymnasium are
connected to the entrance floor of the primary school. The entrance leads to
the staircase connecting all three floors. Daylight reaches the basement
through large round skylights. The interior of the building is sparsely
finished, with exposed concrete displaying a vertical formwork pattern combined
with acoustically effective Heraklith panelling and painted carpentry. A
neutral terrazzo floor in the corridor and dark-red rubber flooring in the
classrooms that is warm underfoot complete the interior materialisation. The
subtle colour scheme is contrasted by the yellow handrails that run through the
building. The new kindergarten and gymnasium building is clad with vertical,
slightly undulating, dark blue ceramic tiles, while sunshade elements made of
prefabricated concrete lend the façade an appealing rhythm. The building is
Minergie A certified.
