Description
The
existing multi-purpose venue was built in 1989, quickly winning over the
population of Valais with the various services it offered. However, over the
years the facilities no longer met requirements in terms of use, capacity,
acoustics and flexibility. The new project intends to refine the inside space
and to improve the perception of volume and the visibility of the stage.
Service spaces are shifted outwards in an L-shaped structure adjoining the
existing volume. The entrance was moved to provide a generous access space and
to allow easy access from the car park located on the neighbouring site. The
spectator is welcomed under a large canopy leading to the entrance foyer. This
space includes both the reception area and the various accesses to the halls. The
volume of the hall has been extended by two frames. The glulam structure is kept, however the spacing between the purlins is used to
increase thermal insulation and to guarantee better acoustics through a
corrugated and perforated metal false ceiling. The thermal insulation
completely envelops the volume from the outside and metal cladding protects it.
The capacity of the venue has been increased to meet the demand of 2,000 seats
and can accommodate up to 4,300 standing people. The volume of the hall can be
divided into three, independent spaces.
