Description
We are confident that the quality of these buildings
and spaces is apparent to all. St. Anton has the virtue of being a special
place as well as a unique architectural construction. The complex is an
outstanding example of post-war sacred architecture. It is a product of its
time and yet also ahead of its time. We hold it in great esteem and respect.
Our aim was to highlight this special nature while updating it to bring St.
Anton into the present day. The Christian faith and charitable works belong
together, and this connection forms the particular pastoral characteristic of
this parish with its clearly social focus – a showcase project. St. Anton’s
innovative identity as a living church community works in tandem with its architecture
to create a unified entity. In this process, its central focus remains on the
people it serves. In these eventful times, it is possible to discern a strong
yearning to encounter one another, especially in genuine spaces that exude a
distinctive atmosphere. At St. Anton, the concept of a church was reconsidered
both substantively and architecturally: How should we envision sacred spaces
that are now to be used in different ways? The most fundamental structural
modification was the decision to make the church smaller by repositioning the
large stained glass window to create a new and fully accessible central
entrance. This portal welcomes everyone: Café Charisma customers, worshippers,
and attendees at workshops or counselling centre activities.
