Description

The historical ensemble of the medieval tower, baroque Domherrnhof and neo-Romanesque church forms the south-western perimeter of Leonrodplatz square in Eichstätt’s historic centre. With its finely structured gabled façade, the so-called Gabrieli Palais dominates the square, while the red-brick church built by August Thiersch forms the recessed perimeter wall of the square and serves as a companion structure to the Altes Stadttheater (literally «Old Town Theatre»). The tower-like new-build has been designed to complement the ensemble. The new, cuboid structure is positioned at the north-western edge of the property and renders the old tower visible once more. A low intermediate structure links the new building, the tower and the Gabrieli Palais. The former Domherrnhof is occupied by the large community hall on the first floor and the parish office on the ground floor. The former garden entrance has been converted into a barrier-free main entrance. Additional group rooms have been created on the ground floor and first floor of the new-build. The rectory is located on the two floors above. The garden on the southern front of the baroque structure will in future serve as a parish garden for outdoor events.
