Description

The Tirol tower house is located in the Austrian Zillertal Valley. The building, constructed with cast-in-place concrete and timber, is informed by the characteristic features of the regional building style and interprets them in a new way. The materiality of the project is also a decidedly regional one – all elements in natural stone are made from boulders taken from the excavation site. On a floor space of 8 x 8 metres, the building is divided into four residential floors with the living room and the associated living, kitchen and dining areas in the centre. On the first floor is a guest flat for four people. Different usage spaces such as the kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom and sauna are generously set out on a single level. On the next floor is the lounge with living, cooking and dining areas. Analogous to the guest apartment, an open fireplace has been integrated into the concrete core of the building. The kitchen is built to high quality standards, combining artisanal perfection and original materiality; work surface and stone sink are made of solid ashlar, there is a flush-mounted gas hob and a large-scale flue housed in untreated steel. On the upper floor are two bedrooms and a spacious bathroom with an adjoining south-facing loggia. The top floor is zoned with the help of a free-standing mirrored box. It contains storage space and separates the main room with a sleeping area, home office and library from the spa area with steam shower.
