Description
The aim of the design was to enhance the quality of
the streetscape along the Schaffhauserstrasse in Zurich, both architecturally
and in terms of urban development, and to give it a positive image. The volume
is focused on creating a visual highlight along the street construction line
where it can take its effect on the identity of the locale. The building’s address with entrance to all 25 apartments and the head office of the
BG Luegisland is located in correspondence to his neighbours on the road. Six
apartments per storey are accessed via a single stairwell. The lofty entrance
hall is inviting and promotes social interaction within the apartment block.
The mezzanine makes it possible to control the relationship between the
apartments and the street. The building is modelled and structured in relation
to the exterior space and the neighbourhood. The floor plan changes with the
depth of the building plot. The façades are set back and offer an unobstructed view of the outside and face
the sun. The angular disposition of living, dining and entrance rooms around
the balconies provides numerous vistas and also gives the small apartments a
certain air of largesse
