Description
This building on the outskirts of Halle in East Westphalia, Germany, was designed to showcase vehicles for families and older people. With its use of wood, the building aims to create an interior atmosphere that seems to correspond ideally to the needs of its target group. In addition to the showroom, the new building houses a small workshop as well as sales offices, a bar, toilets, meeting rooms and a relaxation area. The latter are incorporated in a two-storey structure, entirely in wood, which was erected in the centre of the main hall as a House within a house. The location and geometry of this structure, together with the workshop, divide the showroom hall into areas of different proportions: some large and spacious, some small and intimate. The recreation spaces on the upper floor are fitted with windows onto the hall, allowing views between the different functional areas. The transparent or translucent exterior skin made of glass and polycarbonate allows the showroom to light up during the hours of darkness and attract the attention of passers-by.
