Description

The design was developed based entirely on the special requirements of salt storage and the associated delivery logistics. Salt is corrosive for most building materials, so all components are completely open to the air and cavity-free. Only a minimal number of metal fastenings were used, mounted for easy replacement. The triangular geometry of the outer reinforced concrete piers follows the dynamics of the horizontal loads and the bracing forces of the slanted embankment walls inside, leading to an optimised ratio of reinforcement. The interior makes use of salt’s preservative effect on wood. Salt-resistant corrugated plastic sheets serve as weather protection and let the daylight in, while openings in the façade connections and the door ensure good ventilation.
