Description

The Paulette Fost student residence welcomes engineering students from ISAE-SUPMÉCA, whose campus is located nearby. In the spring of 2024, the premises will temporarily accommodate Olympic and Paralympic athletes during the Games. Situated halfway between the Saint-Denis Pleyel transport hub and the urban fabric of old Saint-Ouen, the site symbolises the urban transition between the rehabilitated former industrial sites and the heart of the old city. The project is built around the idea of structural and capacity optimisation, capable of creating architectural and spatial generosity. This structurally simplified device is complemented by a brick masonry wall between columns, as well as large windows opening onto the surrounding area. The composition of the façades is directly inspired by the contemporary reinterpretation of the adjacent industrial façades. The 130 accommodations consist of furnished studio apartments ranging from 18 to 21 square metres, each equipped with a small kitchen. On the ground floor, the residence offers a co-working space, a laundry room, and a university restaurant. Upstairs, residents have access to a relaxation area with an adjoining terrace that offers a view of the Seine and the distant landscape. The architectural art by artist Julien Serve reflects on representations of the antique athlete who seeks perfect harmony between body and mind. Seven artworks distributed on each level have been created by the students of the school specifically for their residence.
