Description

Solitary buildings and park-like gardens with tall trees dominate the area along the tracks in Wohlen. This garden zone is crossed by Bahnhofstraße, which is fast developing into a shopping promenade. The two new buildings have been erected in this central location, conceived as an apartment tower and a longhouse staggered in its depth, forming an ensemble in combination with the old Gasthaus Feldschlösschen. The building on Aargauerstraße is designed as an apartment house with offices on the ground floor. Other quiet public uses, such as doctors’ practices, are also conceivable on the upper floors. The building on Bahnhofstraße is instead conceived as a residence with two staircases, with each storey laid out to allow for a variety of housing options. On the ground floor, the window fronts of two commercial units open onto the street. The limitations imposed by railway noise and shadows were essential determining factors for the design concept. The adjacent park area with its large trees is continued in the complex, flowing around the two six- to seven-storey residential buildings. The underground carpark is accessed from Aargauerstraße.
