Description

The main features of the striking former industrial building were the large hall on the ground floor, the wide spans on the upper floor, with a visible support structure, as well as the simplicity and elegance of its design and the use of rough materials such as brickwork, stone walls, concrete floors, and ceilings in which the patterns of the formwork and the technical installations were left exposed. After the renovation, the building is now entered on the ground floor through a two-storey foyer where public functional areas are located. By raising the ceiling here, a functional connecting bridge could be inserted that links the public area on the first floor with the office/ administration tract. An elevator and staircases were added as complementary elements, designed to be readable as new additions. The second floor holds the event rooms with ancillary spaces. Throughout the interior, the materials and colour scheme reinforce the formal language of the industrial architecture. The existing floors were sanded and oiled, and railing structures continued as simple steel railings. The forum was equipped with state-of-the-art media and technical facilities. The lighting concept orchestrates the light to showcase the special qualities of the architecture. On the exterior, the building stands out on the streetscape with its exposed stone and brick masonry. The distinctive canopy was given a transparent roof covering in the entrance area. The façades on the sides facing away from the street were fitted with thermal insulation panels to save energy.
