Description

The 160-meter-long, seven-storey volume meanders between topped-up operating buildings, train tracks and neighbouring buildings. A double bend in the »residential meander« carves out two zones, which are connected by a spacious arcade on the ground floor: between the residential building and the previous structures, a green park with playground is created, looking westward to Uetliberg Mountain. On the north side is a gravel square that functions as an urban vestibule. The western end of the building is extended upward like a tower while tapering into the depth. The duplex flats on the mezzanine level and first floor have typical terraced house layouts: accessed from a loggia via a private entrance, they have living and dining rooms downstairs and bedrooms above. All apartments on the upper floors extend from the front to back of the building and are accessible from two sides. They have ribbon windows on the railroad side and a continuous veranda on the park side. Emulating the elegant condominios in Milan, the façades were clad with dark-glazed ceramic panels.
