Description

The usual building shape – a polygon with circular segments cut out – is derived from the desire to protect the old-growth trees in its park-like setting, maintaining the required distances from their roots and crowns. This design results in eight apartments that relate directly to the surrounding space, which is staged by the wraparound balconies of varying depths and the floor-to-ceiling windows in the dark-painted wood façade. Slender steel supports connect the cantilevered white-concrete floor slabs, acting as a filigree filter between the building and the park. In contrast to the organically curving volume, the interior layout is orthogonally arranged. This tension between exterior form and internal configuration lends the apartment house spatial and atmospheric added value. A distinctive character is also ensured by the gracious entrance hall with its strip parquet flooring and wooden staircase with finely crafted balustrade.
