Description
The Science Park start-up and innovation centre forms an integral part of the new Campus North at the University of Kassel. As a forum for exchange between academia and industry, the centre will help start-ups bring their ideas to market. The new four-storey building offers approx. 6,200 square meters of space for office and laboratory workplaces, workshops, studios and a central cafeteria with an adjacent seminar and conference area. Important features are co-working spaces and the IdeaLab as nucleus and idea incubator for the Science Park. The seven-sided basic building shape defined in the master plan for Campus North is articulated inside by two inner courtyards. The new building mediates between structures of different heights: in the south-west courtyard, this change in level is made tangible by an outdoor staircase. The northern courtyard allows for natural light and ventilation all the way down to the basement level, while also providing outdoor space for the workshops.
