The premises of inthewhiteroom, a medical cosmetic institute with showroom, lounge and treatment rooms, were installed in the listed Basel Market Hall from the 1920s. The monochromatic concept blends historical and new elements into a cohesive unit – the colour white as central design element also lending the institute a fitting identity. All surfaces are completely in white: the plaster walls and ceilings were painted white, while the floor consists of a homogeneous white floating screed. The room has rounded corners that blur the dimensions of the spatial envelope, connecting the various levels of the ground floor space into one large, flowing unit. The focus is on the presentation of the products and facilities. The second central design element is light, which creates different atmospheric moods in each zone. The stairs are centrally placed as a sculptural element in the room. They expand the space visually and bring natural light into the ground floor.
